Kaizer Chiefs agree deal to sell 15-goal winger Glody Makabi Lilepo to Al Ahly Benghazi

Kaizer Chiefs have agreed a transfer fee with Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi for winger Glody Makabi Lilepo, paving the way for the DR Congo international to leave Naturena after just a season and a half.

Lilepo, 25, is expected to depart Amakhosi once the final details of the move are concluded, with personal terms already believed to be in place between the player and the Libyan Premier League side.

The wide forward has been one of Chiefs’ most productive attacking players since his arrival from French club Valenciennes FC in January 2025, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in 56 appearances across all competitions.

Journalist confirms club-to-club agreement

News of the breakthrough was revealed by SABC Sport reporter Mazola Molefe, who said the two clubs had now reached an agreement over the transfer.

“I promised you a Kaizer Chiefs story. It’s with regards to their striker or wingman, that’s Glody Lilepo,” Molefe said on SABC Sport.

He added: “I understand that Kaizer Chiefs have agreed a club to club fee with Al Ahly Benghazi in Libya.”

The latest development reinforces earlier information from FARPost journalist Mthokozisi Dube, who reported that Lilepo had already settled personal terms with Al Ahly Benghazi and that only the final formalities of the transfer were outstanding.

Instant impact after mid-season arrival

Lilepo joined Kaizer Chiefs midway through the 2024/25 campaign from Valenciennes FC and quickly became a central figure in the club’s attack.

Despite arriving in January, he finished that season as Chiefs’ leading league scorer, striking six goals and providing one assist in just 15 Betway Premiership matches in the second half of the campaign.

His performances offered a rare bright spark in what has been a challenging period for the Soweto giants, with his pace, direct running and eye for goal making him a crowd favourite in a short space of time.

Consistent performer in league and Africa

During the 2025/26 season, Lilepo continued to play a prominent role for Amakhosi. He made 27 domestic appearances, scoring five league goals and supplying four assists.

One of his strikes earned him a nomination for the Betway Premiership Goal of the Season award, underlining his ability to produce moments of individual quality.

Lilepo also left his mark on the continental stage. In the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, he scored a crucial goal against AS Simba SC as Kaizer Chiefs secured a 3-1 aggregate victory to progress in the competition.

Departure looms as Chiefs face attacking reshuffle

With a club-to-club agreement reportedly finalised and personal terms understood to be settled, Lilepo’s exit now appears to be only a matter of time.

His departure will leave Kaizer Chiefs needing to reshape their forward line once again, having relied heavily on his goals and attacking output over the past 18 months.

No official announcement has yet been made by either club, but all indications are that Amakhosi are preparing to lose one of their most influential attacking assets to North Africa before the new campaign.
