Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Patrick Mabedi has implored the club to maintain coach Nasreddine Nabi despite the teams inconsistent performance.
The Tunisian coach, who is in his first season has been criticized despite the club reaching the semifinals of the South African Cup competition.
Kaizer Chiefs are currently out of the race for the South African Premier League title but remains a contender for the Cup competition.
Despite their inconsistent performance, Kaizer Chiefs are in line to end their trophy drought in South Africa.
“Yes, the results are not the best right now. And it’s true, any team is judged by its results, but from my perspective, the team has improved under coach Nabi. Look at how many chances they create, but they can’t finish them. If you change the coach now, you have to start all over again, and that’s not very good. That’s why I say the Chiefs should keep Nabi.
There’s no need to fire him. You know, as a coach, Nabi can only do so much. The rest depends on the players, who must do their job on the field. The coach does his work in training and in the locker room, but on the field, it’s up to the players, and I think so far they haven’t been 100 percent perfect. They need to work on that and support the coach,” Mabedi said in an interview with Soccer Laduma.
