Kaï Tomety confident as Togo prepares for Women’s AFCON qualifier against Djibouti

Togo’s women’s national team is intensifying preparations for their upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 qualifier against Djibouti, with head coach Kaï Tomety expressing confidence ahead of the clash.

The match presents a unique challenge for Tomety, as she will face off against her compatriot Jonas Kokou Komlan, now in charge of the Djiboutian side.

The two teams last met in the qualifiers for the previous edition of the tournament, where Togo dominated with emphatic victories of 7-0 and 6-0.

However, with Komlan now leading Djibouti, the upcoming encounters could prove more competitive.

Despite the absence of a few key players, Tomety remains assured of her squad’s strength and believes her team is well-prepared.

We already have a basic game. We just need to activate it, and I’m sure the machine will take off, she said.

Since taking charge of Djibouti in January 2025, Komlan has had time to reshape his squad, but Tomety insists that familiarity between coaches does not necessarily determine the outcome.

Knowing a team and implementing a game plan are two different things.

It all depends on the level of the players. So I’m not afraid of Jonas Kokou Komlan.

We know each other. The coach who has the best strategy will win,” she stated.

Togo’s squad is set to be complete by February 17, with the arrival of players based abroad.

The first leg will take place in Djibouti on February 21, while the return fixture will be held in Togo on February 26.

The winner will advance to the next round to face either Burundi or Burkina Faso.
