Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia says Eric Tinkler has the experience and understanding required to guide the club after his appointment as head coach.
The 56-year-old returns to Durban City as the replacement for Khalil Ben Youssef, who was dismissed less than two weeks ago.
Tinkler had been strongly linked with the KwaZulu-Natal club before Ben Youssef was appointed, but a move failed to materialise at that stage.
He has now been given the task of leading Durban City through the remainder of their campaign in domestic and continental competitions.
Kadodia believes Tinkler possesses the qualities needed to help the club meet its ambitions for the season.
“Eric brings a wealth of experience in South African football and understands what is required at this level,” said Kadodia.
“We believe he is the right person to lead the team and help us achieve what we have set out to achieve this season.”
