Kabini says Mosimane has kept Broos’ Bafana Bafana blueprint

Bafana Bafana defender Samukele Kabini says there is little difference between the approaches of Hugo Broos and Pitso Mosimane, with the new coach choosing to build on the foundations already established by his predecessor.

Mosimane has begun his second spell as South Africa’s senior national team coach with consecutive victories over Guinea and Eritrea in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. Those results have placed Bafana Bafana top of Group D with six points.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach has retained the core of Broos’ squad, describing it as the foundation of the team.

Kabini, a 22-year-old left-back with Molde KF, has worked under both managers. Although his opportunities in official matches were limited during Broos’ tenure, he has already scored and provided an assist since Mosimane’s return.

Speaking to iDiski Times senior journalist Lorenz Kohler in edition 275, Kabini said the atmosphere and mentality within the squad had remained largely unchanged.

“I don’t feel like there’s major differences,” Kabini told iDiski Times.

“It feels the same as the last times. He didn’t want to change a lot of things – he just wanted us to continue the way we did things, even before he was not here.

“So yeah – the vibes and everything in the camp is still the same, maybe some small things. He said he doesn’t want to change much, with the team doing well, the mentality is there. He just wanted to add on what we have, as the new coach.”

Kabini said Mosimane’s priority had been to make gradual additions rather than overhaul a team that was already performing well.

“Not changing but adding on things to a good team and continue from there.”
