Juventus strike twice after the break to see off Napoli in Turin

Juventus responded to last weekend’s defeat by Genoa with a 2-0 victory over Napoli at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday, securing three important points in the 10th round of Serie A.

The result moved Luciano Spalletti’s side up to seventh in the table with 17 points. Napoli remain eighth on 14 points under manager Massimiliano Allegri, three points behind their opponents after failing to find a way back into the contest.

Juventus had been beaten by Genoa in their previous league match but quickly repaired some of the damage with a controlled performance against Napoli. The hosts were unable to break the deadlock before half-time, although the game changed decisively in the second period.

The breakthrough arrived in the 70th minute when Karim Alajbegovic found space outside the penalty area. He carried the ball forward before unleashing a powerful left-footed strike from distance.

The effort hit the post on its way into the net, leaving goalkeeper Meret with no chance of keeping it out. It gave Juventus the lead and sparked loud celebrations among the home supporters at the Allianz Stadium.

Napoli’s position deteriorated five minutes later when Marianucci was sent off. The referee showed him a second yellow card for a challenge on Cabal, leaving Napoli to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.

Juventus took advantage of the numerical advantage and added a second goal in the 87th minute. Jeremy Boga collected the ball on the left, moved inside and created room for a right-footed shot from outside the box.

His attempt found the net to complete a 2-0 victory and confirm Juventus’ superiority in the closing stages. The win gives Spalletti an important lift as Juventus seek to re-establish themselves among Serie A’s leading clubs.
