Juventus eye Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta
Juventus are set to compete for the signature of Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The 28-year-old French striker has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout performers, catching the attention of multiple top European clubs.
According to journalist Mirko Di Natale, Juventus are preparing to reignite their pursuit of Mateta during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Serie A giants face competition from AC Milan, who have already been linked with the striker in recent weeks. Both Italian clubs view the potential transfer fee of €20–25 million as an affordable investment for a proven goal scorer.
In January 2021, Crystal Palace secured Jean-Philippe Mateta on an 18-month loan from Mainz 05 for an initial fee of approximately €3 million, including an option to purchase the striker permanently if performance criteria were met.
Mateta made his debut as a substitute against Leeds United on 8 February 2021, and in the remainder of the 2020–21 Premier League season, he appeared in seven matches, scoring once.
His debut goal came on 22 February 2021, an improvised backheel flick in a 2–1 away victory over local rivals Brighton & Hove Albion. The loan agreement was activated into a permanent deal on 31 January 2022, with Palace paying Mainz around €11 million.
