Juventus end interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez

Juventus have decided not to proceed with a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez during the current summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian club informed Aston Villa of its decision after carrying out an internal review over the past few days, Romano reported. Juventus are understood to have concluded that the financial cost of signing the Argentina international would be too high and have therefore ended their pursuit of him.

Martinez had been linked with a move to Juventus as the club considered strengthening its goalkeeping department. However, the fee required by Aston Villa has led Juventus to abandon the proposed deal.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti had previously addressed the possibility of signing Martinez, saying: “Emiliano Martinez is a player who wants to move this summer, and we are looking for competition in the goalkeeping position.”

He added: “We already have two goalkeepers at the moment.”

Earlier reports had indicated that Juventus had not come close to meeting Aston Villa’s valuation of Martinez. The Premier League club is in a strong negotiating position because the goalkeeper’s contract runs until the summer of 2029.

That long-term agreement means Aston Villa are under no immediate pressure to sell, while any formal offer would have to reflect the club’s asking price. Juventus’ decision to step away from the negotiations is consequently based on the financial demands involved rather than a lack of interest in the player’s position or experience.

Martinez is now expected to remain with Aston Villa for the time being, while Juventus continue to assess other options before the transfer window closes.

The Argentina goalkeeper has been the subject of speculation during the current window, with Juventus looking for greater competition in goal. Spalletti’s comments confirmed that the club was considering changes in the position, although he also acknowledged that Juventus already have two goalkeepers available.

Romano’s report means the proposed transfer will not move forward at this stage. Aston Villa have been notified of Juventus’ position, and the Italian club will now focus on alternative solutions to strengthen its squad before the end of the summer market.
