Justin Njinmah trains lightly as muscular issues limit Werder session

Justin Njinmah’s preseason with Werder Bremen began on Sunday, but only in a limited way because of muscular issues.

He transferred to SV Werder Bremen on a free deal in July 2021, and initially played for their reserve team in the Regionalliga Nord, where he excelled with 14 goals in 18 matches during the 2021-22 campaign. On 6 January 2022, Njinmah signed his first professional contract with Werder Bremen, which included an immediate loan to Borussia Dortmund II until June 2023; during this period, he scored 18 goals and provided 5 assists in 50 league games in the 3. Liga.

The forward took part in the warm-up and passing drills before leaving the session early, which suggests the club is being cautious rather than taking any risks.

For now, the concern is not described as serious, yet it is still an early setback as Bremen prepare for the 2026/27 season. Muscular problems can be small but tricky, especially at the start of preseason when players are pushing to build rhythm and fitness again. Werder have not signaled that the issue will keep him out long term, but his workload will likely be monitored closely over the coming days.

Njinmah’s situation is also being followed because of transfer speculation. Recent reports have linked him with a possible summer exit, and that uncertainty adds another layer to his current fitness management. Even so, his immediate priority is to get through preseason without a setback and be ready for the new campaign.
