Bernard Tapie, the former French Minister of Labor and businessman, is facing ongoing troubles related to a debt of 3.8 million euros owed to Urssaf. This debt is reportedly linked to Tapie’s tenure as president of Olympique de Marseille. Despite his previous insolvency, Tapie’s recent financial gains have brought this debt back into focus.
The issue stems from Tapie’s personal guarantee to Urssaf in 1993 on behalf of Olympique de Marseille. Following the club’s liquidation in 1995, Tapie was not required to repay the club’s outstanding debts. However, since receiving a substantial sum of 403 million euros from a favorable arbitration decision in 2008, Tapie is once again considered solvent.
As a result, Urssaf, represented by its lawyer Me Pérez, is pursuing Tapie for the repayment of the debt. Pérez reportedly possesses signed documents in which Tapie committed to repaying Olympique de Marseille’s debts until 1994. The verdict on this matter is expected to be delivered on February 24.
