Newly promoted to Ligue 2, Chambly have officially unveiled their first signing of the summer transfer window with the arrival of Ivorian striker Junior Tallo. The Picardy-based club, which will compete in the second tier of French football for the first time in its history next season, is wasting no time in strengthening its squad as it prepares for the challenges ahead.
Junior Tallo, formerly of Lille, has signed a one-year contract with Chambly, including an option for a second season if the club succeeds in maintaining its Ligue 2 status. The 27-year-old forward had been without a club for the past six months and joined Chambly after a successful trial period. His performances in training convinced head coach Bruno Luzi and the club’s technical staff, who quickly moved to secure his signature.
The Oise-based club sees Tallo as a valuable addition, bringing both experience and attacking options to a squad that will face a significant step up in competition. Despite his recent lack of match time, the Ivorian international remains a player with a solid background at both club and international level. He terminated his contract with Vitória Guimarães in January, after a spell in the Portuguese top flight, and has since been looking for the right project to relaunch his career.
Tallo’s professional journey began at AS Roma, where he made his debut at just 18 years old and recorded three appearances for the Italian giants. Seeking regular playing time, he was loaned to Bari in Serie B before moving to France, where he wore the colors of several Ligue 1 clubs, including Ajaccio and Bastia. His performances in France eventually earned him a move to Lille, where he continued to build his reputation as a mobile and technically gifted forward.
Across his time in Ligue 1, Junior Tallo accumulated 62 appearances, starting 41 matches and scoring 13 goals. While his career has included periods of instability, he has consistently shown flashes of quality, particularly his pace, movement, and ability to play across the front line. On the international stage, he has represented Ivory Coast on eight occasions and was part of the squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, a major highlight in his career.
For Chambly, this signing represents more than just reinforcement; it is a statement of intent. The club is stepping into uncharted territory with its first-ever Ligue 2 campaign and is determined to assemble a squad capable of competing at this higher level. Bringing in a player who has experience in top European leagues and international tournaments could prove crucial in guiding a relatively modest club through a demanding season.
As preparations continue for the new campaign, all eyes will be on Junior Tallo to see whether he can quickly regain rhythm and rediscover the form that once made him a promising talent. If he succeeds, Chambly’s first summer recruit could also become one of the key figures in their historic Ligue 2 adventure.
