Benin midfielder Junior Olaitan commits his future to Besiktas
Benin midfielder Junior Olaitan has moved to end speculation surrounding his future by expressing his desire to remain at Besiktas, despite attracting interest from other clubs following an impressive debut season in Turkish football.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a strong first campaign in the Turkish top flight, performances that reportedly caught the attention of several teams ahead of the transfer window.
However, rather than exploring a move elsewhere, Olaitan has made it clear that he sees his future in Istanbul and wants to continue his development with the Black Eagles.
His decision comes after a period of rapid progress in his career, which has seen him establish himself as one of Benin’s most promising footballers while adapting successfully to a new league and environment.
Speaking to Ratings, the Porto-Novo-born midfielder explained why he believes his adventure at Besiktas is far from over.
“I arrived in February to a squad with many new faces. I feel particularly good here, whether with my teammates, the staff, the management, or the fans.
Following the numerous departures in January, we are in the midst of a rebuild, and I am continuing to adapt to the playing philosophy. This first assessment at Beşiktaş is very positive. Next season looks fantastic, and we will fight together to achieve great success.”
The comments offer a clear indication of Olaitan’s mindset as he prepares for the next chapter of his career. While transfer interest often creates uncertainty around players entering the peak years of their careers, the Benin international appears fully committed to the project underway at Besiktas.
His positive assessment of life in Istanbul reflects the progress he has made since arriving in Turkish football. Olaitan joined Göztepe in July 2025 after leaving French Ligue 2 side GF38, taking on the challenge of adapting to a new country, language and style of football.
The transition could have proven difficult, but the midfielder settled quickly and demonstrated his ability to perform consistently at a higher level. Those displays helped raise his profile and eventually generated interest from clubs looking to strengthen their squads.
Despite those opportunities, Olaitan believes the timing is not right for another move.
Instead, he appears focused on continuing his growth within a team that is undergoing significant changes. His reference to the club’s rebuilding process suggests he sees himself as an important part of Besiktas’ future plans rather than a player seeking an immediate transfer elsewhere.
The midfielder’s connection with the club also extends beyond football. In his own words, he has found comfort among teammates, coaching staff, executives and supporters, factors that often play a major role in a player’s decision when considering their long-term future.
For Besiktas, retaining a player who has adapted quickly and shown consistent progress will be viewed as an encouraging development as the club seeks stability and improvement.
Olaitan’s determination to stay may also provide reassurance to supporters eager to see key members of the squad remain committed during a period of transition.
While transfer rumours are likely to continue surrounding a player whose reputation has risen significantly over the past year, the Benin international has delivered a straightforward message: his focus remains firmly on Besiktas.
After making a successful start to life in Turkish football, Junior Olaitan believes his story in Istanbul is only beginning, and he is determined to play a leading role in the club’s ambitions for the seasons ahead.
