Junior Lavri Sessegnon, the 22-year-old midfielder and son of former Benin captain Stéphane Sessegnon, has revealed his ambition to play for the Benin national football team.

Born in France and developed through the Paris Saint-Germain youth system, Junior Lavri Sessegnon says his decision to represent Benin is driven by a personal connection to his father’s homeland.

“Benin means a great deal to me, because it’s clearly a part of me and my identity. My father taught me to love this country.

Just by seeing the love he has for Benin, I learned to carry this country in my heart. He gave it his all, and I intend to do the same in the future,” Sessegnon told Joueurs Béninois.

Despite the family legacy, Junior Lavri Sessegnon is focused on progressing through youth levels before targeting the senior team.

He has set his immediate sights on participating in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“If the Federation ever contacts me, it would be a tremendous honor for me and my family. Right now, I prefer to remain objective: the senior national team is always in the back of my mind, but I want to progress through the youth ranks first.

My immediate goal is to participate in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. At 22, I still have a lot to improve, and establishing myself at the youth level before reaching the senior team seems like the logical next step,” he added.

Known for his methodical approach on the pitch, Sessegnon appears determined to carve his own path in Beninese football while honoring the legacy left by his father.

Observers see his careful, step-by-step strategy as a promising foundation for a future role in the national team.

As he continues to develop his game, Junior Lavri Sessegnon represents a new generation of Beninese talent seeking to combine personal ambition with national pride.
