Julian Alvarez sought medical help after future at Atletico Madrid led to “major crises”
Julian Alvarez’s uncertainty over his future at Atletico Madrid had a significant psychological impact on the Argentina striker, according to reports in Spain.
The 26-year-old spent much of the summer transfer window at the centre of speculation, with Barcelona reported to be interested in signing him. He eventually decided to remain in the Spanish capital and continue his career with Atletico.
However, the uncertainty surrounding his situation made for an extremely difficult period. Alvarez was met by jeers from some Atletico supporters when he returned, while he also had to deal with the disappointment of losing the 2026 World Cup final with Argentina.
Spanish television programme El Chiringuito reported that the striker had experienced “major crises” connected to the uncertainty over his future, leaving him “on the brink”.
“Julian has had important crises that have taken him to the limit because of the issue surrounding his future,” the programme said.
It also reported that he “had to attend a medical consultation to help him get through this situation”.
The reports did not provide further details about the nature of the consultation, but said it came after the pressure Alvarez had faced during the recent period of uncertainty.
Atletico are now attempting to support the player as he puts a turbulent summer behind him and concentrates on continuing his career with the club.
Alvarez had previously spoken publicly about his doubts over remaining at Atletico Madrid. Although he ultimately chose to stay with the club, continuing with Los Rojiblancos had not initially been his preferred option.
The forward has made three appearances in all competitions this season and has provided one assist. That contribution came in Atletico’s 2-1 defeat by Liverpool in the Champions League.
