Jules Kounde could leave Barcelona for Chelsea
Jules Kounde could leave Barcelona for Chelsea in January after losing his regular starting place under Hansi Flick.
The France international previously chose the Catalan club over the London side in 2022, but four years later, a move to Stamford Bridge may offer an unexpected second chance.
According to reports, Chelsea are preparing an approach worth approximately €52 million. Kounde’s contract runs until 2030, but Barcelona are reportedly willing to consider offers as they manage their wage bill.
The defender had been a dependable presence at right-back, yet Eric Garcia has recently moved ahead of him in Flick’s plans. Youngster Xavi Espart could also return to the position, making Kounde’s route back into the lineup even more difficult.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso reportedly approves of the transfer. Kounde’s versatility would suit a coach who switches between three-man and four-man defensive systems, while his experience could help strengthen a defence that has conceded 12 Premier League goals this season.
Bayern Munich have also asked about the 27-year-old, but Chelsea may hold the advantage because of their previous interest. With three La Liga titles and extensive Champions League experience, Koundé could adapt quickly to English football.
