Juan Micha’s era with Equatorial Guinea comes to an end afte five years

Juan Micha’s remarkable journey with the Equatorial Guinea national team as head coach has come to an end, bringing the curtain down on one of the most memorable coaching spells in the history of the Nzalang Nacional.

Although Micha was officially appointed head coach on March 25, 2021, his relationship with the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT) dates back much further.

As early as 2016, he was part of the federation’s technical staff and contributed to several national football development projects.

At the beginning of 2021, Micha and Casto Nopo were handed responsibility for the senior national team on an interim basis.

Positive results, particularly against Libya, convinced FEGUIFUT to place their faith in Micha, leading to his official appointment as head coach on a one-year contract with an option for renewal.

His tenure quickly produced unforgettable moments for Equatorial Guinea.

Micha guided the Nzalang Nacional to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where the team faced some of the continent’s strongest sides.

Equatorial Guinea exceeded expectations and produced one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, further strengthening Micha’s reputation as a coach capable of getting the best out of his players.

FEGUIFUT subsequently renewed his contract in 2022, extending it until 2024.

In August 2024, both parties agreed to another extension that kept Micha in charge until 2026.

During his tenure, Micha led Equatorial Guinea through several African competition qualification campaigns and major tournaments, overseeing a period in which the national team became increasingly competitive on the continental stage.

Now, after years of commitment, pressure, victories and setbacks, FEGUIFUT has bid farewell to the coach.

The federation thanked Micha for the memorable nights, tense moments, important victories and difficult defeats that shaped his tenure.

Behind every match were countless training sessions, tactical decisions, criticism, pressure and personal sacrifices.
