Jovane Cabral: Cape Verde winger linked with Gremio move after Estrela Amadora exit

Cape Verde and Portugal winger Jovane Cabral, currently without a club after leaving Estrela Amadora, is being linked with a move to Brazilian side Gremio.

The 28-year-old left winger became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following the end of his spell at Estrela, opening the door to an overseas switch. Gremio are understood to be exploring a deal for the right-footed attacker, who last held a market valuation of around 1m and would not command a transfer fee.

Cabral spent the 2024-25 campaign with Estrela Amadora in Portugals top flight, having joined from Sporting in September 2024 for a reported 800,000. Before that, he had loan spells with Olympiacos in Greece and Salernitana in Serie A, adding experience in both European competition and one of Europes major leagues.

A product of Sportings academy, Cabral made his breakthrough in Lisbon after arriving from Cape Verdean club Nhagar as a teenager and went on to feature regularly in the Primeira Liga. Across his time in Portugals top tier he has made 125 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 14 assists, and was part of Sportings 2020-21 title-winning squad.

Cabral has also appeared on the global stage this year, featuring for Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup, where he played in two of their matches.

With no contract tying him down and Gremio looking to strengthen their attacking options, negotiations are expected to focus on personal terms and the length of any proposed deal. Cabral remains a free agent while discussions over a potential move to Porto Alegre continue.
