Jovane Cabral: Cape Verde winger joins Gremio on free transfer
Cape Verde and Portugal winger Jovane Cabral has joined Brazilian side Gremio on a free transfer after leaving Portuguese club Estrela Amadora. The 28-year-old left-sided attacker has signed a deal with the Porto Alegre giants running until 31 December 2027.
Cabral arrives in Brazil having most recently played in Portugal’s top flight with Estrela Amadora, whom he joined from Sporting CP in 2024. His move to Gremio follows a brief spell without a club earlier this summer after his contract with Estrela came to an end.
Primarily a left winger who operates on his right foot, Cabral brings significant experience from top-level European competition, including outings in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Serie A during earlier spells away from Sporting. Standing at 1.74m, he has made more than 120 appearances in Liga Portugal, contributing goals and assists across several seasons.
Born in Assomada in 1998, Cabral developed in Sporting’s academy after moving from Nhagar as a teenager and progressed through their youth sides to the first team. During his time in Lisbon he collected major domestic honours, including a Portuguese league title, the Portuguese Cup, three League Cups and the Portuguese Super Cup.
Cabral was part of the Cape Verde squad at the 2026 World Cup, featuring in two of their matches at the tournament. His switch to Gremio marks his first move to South American club football.
The winger’s contract with Gremio runs to the end of 2027 following his free-transfer move from Estrela Amadora.
