Josh Acheampong: England centre-back linked with Man City move

Manchester City are monitoring Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong amid growing speculation the teenager could be the subject of a major Premier League move.

Reports in Germany-based data outlet Transfermarkt link the 19-year-old centre-back with a switch from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad, with the move currently listed as a rumour and its probability marked as unclear (“?”). No fee has been agreed and there is no indication that talks are advanced, but City are understood to be tracking his rapid rise.

Acheampong, who is valued at €20.00m on Transfermarkt, has seen his estimated market value surge from €300,000 in March 2024 – when he was with Chelsea’s Under-18s – to €20m by December 2025 following his promotion through the age groups to the first team. The absence of publicly listed contract expiry details in the data has also prompted speculation that Chelsea’s long-term position with the player is not yet firmly secured, raising the theoretical prospect he could become a free agent if no agreement is in place.

Born in London on 5 May 2006, Acheampong is eligible for both England and Ghana and is listed as a right-footed centre-back standing at 1.90m. He has progressed exclusively within Chelsea’s system, moving from Chelsea Youth to the Under-18s in 2022, stepping up to the Under-21s ahead of the 2024–25 campaign and then into the senior squad later that season.

The rumoured interest from City would represent a significant step up in expectations for a player whose experience to date has come within the Chelsea set-up and domestic youth competitions. With his value trending sharply upwards and both clubs competing at the top end of the Premier League, any eventual move – if it materialises – could be a defining moment in Acheampong’s career and shape how his potential is realised at elite level.
