Joseph Okonkwo: Nigeria midfielder joins Kosovo club FC Suhareka
Nigeria midfielder Joseph Okonkwo has joined Kosovo club FC Suhareka, returning to competitive football after leaving FK Kukesi last year.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder completed the move on 4 August 2026. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the switch, and no contract length has been announced.
Okonkwo’s most recent club was FK Kukesi, whom he joined from KF Iliria in January 2025. That move was completed as a free transfer, and he remained with the Albanian club until July 2025 before entering a career break.
He now adds experience from football in both Kosovo and Albania to the FC Suhareka squad. Okonkwo has made 20 appearances in the Superliga e Kosoves and a further 13 appearances in Albania’s Kategoria e Pare, where he scored once. He has also featured in the Re. Kategoria e Pare, the Challenge League and the Kupa e Shqiperise during his career.
Born in Onitsha, Nigeria, Okonkwo is a left-footed midfielder who operates primarily in a defensive role. He has also played for FC Vushtrria and KF Trepca 89 in Kosovo, with both moves recorded as free transfers. Earlier in his career, he spent time with Eskisehir U19 in Turkey.
His move to FC Suhareka marks the latest step in a career that has included spells across the football systems of Kosovo and Albania. The club becomes the latest destination for a player whose senior career has been concentrated in those two countries.
Okonkwo has now completed his move to FC Suhareka and is registered as part of the Kosovo club’s squad.
