Joseph Akpala Makes Permanent Move to Turkey with Karabükspor
Nigerian international striker Joseph Akpala has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Karabükspor, ending his association with Werder Bremen. The 27-year-old forward, who spent last season on loan at Karabükspor, has now signed a three-year contract with the Süper Lig side.
Akpala first arrived in Germany in 2012, joining Werder Bremen after successful spells in Belgium with Charleroi and Club Brugge. Despite high expectations, his time at Werder was limited, featuring in just 21 matches and scoring a solitary goal before being loaned out to Karabükspor for the 2013/14 campaign.
During his loan spell in Turkey, Akpala rediscovered his scoring touch, netting six goals across all competitions — a performance that convinced Karabükspor to activate the purchase option. According to Weser Kurier, the transfer fee for the permanent deal was reported to be around €1 million.
Akpala’s decision to settle permanently in Turkey reflects a desire for stability and regular playing time. Since breaking onto the scene in Belgium, where he was crowned the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer in 2008 while at Charleroi, the striker has built a reputation as a reliable goal-getter.
His move to Karabükspor marks a new chapter in his career, as he looks to establish himself as a key figure in the Turkish top flight. For Karabükspor, securing Akpala on a permanent basis adds proven quality to their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The striker’s journey through European football has seen him evolve from a promising talent in Belgium to a seasoned professional adapting to new challenges abroad. Now, with a permanent contract in Turkey, Akpala aims to continue his progression and contribute significantly to his club’s ambitions.
