Former Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly planning to take legal action against the club over unpaid dues.
The Spanish tactician was appointed by the Egyptian giants on May 29, 2025, ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup. However, his tenure lasted just 94 days, ending in late August following a string of disappointing results.
During that period, Riveiro oversaw seven matches, securing only a single victory against Pharco in the Egyptian League.
Al Ahly confirmed that the termination of Riveiro’s contract, along with his assistant staff, was by mutual consent.
The decision followed a meeting of the club’s planning committee, which included president Mahmoud El Khatib and sporting director Mohamed Youssef, where reports from the sporting and technical departments were reviewed.
According to sources, Riveiro’s contract entitled him to three months’ salary following a mutual termination.
An agreement was reached for him to receive $98,000, which the club says was ready for collection.
“Riveiro’s contract stipulates that he receives three months’ salary after the termination of his contract by mutual agreement between the two parties,” a source said.
“An agreement was reached with Ribeiro to receive $98,000, and the Spanish coach agreed to the settlement with the Al-Ahly club.
“Al-Ahly club asked Ribeiro to come and collect his dues, but he refused to receive the amount of 98,000.
“We have not received anything regarding Ribeiro filing a complaint against the club. We reached an agreement with him to settle his dues, and the money was ready, but he suddenly backed out.”
The dispute now threatens to escalate, with Riveiro considering filing a formal complaint to recover the outstanding amount.
