Jose Riveiro returns to South Africa after Al Ahly sack
José Riveiro is back on South African months after losing his job at Al Ahly.
The Spanish coach was seen arriving at OR Tambo International Airport on Monday and is now staying in Johannesburg.
He is expected to make his first public appearance since leaving the country in May at a Carling Black Label football event scheduled for this week in Bryanston.
Riveiro left before the conclusion of last season after guiding Orlando Pirates to five trophies in three years, a spell that cemented his reputation among the club’s supporters.
He later took up a role with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, but his time in Cairo proved short-lived. A poor run of results cost him his job, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure.
His final match in charge of Pirates came in May — a 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows — a fitting farewell on a lively afternoon at Es’godini.
Now 50 and without a club following his dismissal from Al Ahly in August, Riveiro is weighing his next step after managing just one win in seven matches with the Egyptian side.
