Jose Riveiro, the Spanish coach of Egyptian giants Al Ahly, celebrated his first win with the club yet made it clear the performance must improve.
His side swept past Pharco 4-1 in the Egyptian Premier League second round, but the coach’s focus was on the lapses that followed their dominant start.
Speaking after the match, Jose Riveiro acknowledged the importance of the victory and praised how his players took control in the first half, keeping the game in Pharco’s half for long spells. However, he admitted to addressing the squad about their drop in intensity after scoring the third goal.
“I spoke to the players about the unsatisfactory result, but the performance declined after the third goal due to slackness, which is unacceptable,” he said.
The win puts Al Ahly in a strong early position in the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly will play Ghazl Al Mahalla away on August 25th.
