Jose Mourinho slams media over Kylian Mbappe controversy

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has strongly defended Kylian Mbappe amid growing media scrutiny over the French forward’s activities while recovering from a knee injury.

Mbappe has attracted attention in recent days after travelling to Paris and sharing footage of himself riding a bicycle. The incidents sparked debate among supporters, particularly after Mourinho previously warned that footballers should avoid activities that could expose them to unnecessary injury risks.

However, the Portuguese coach dismissed the criticism as excessive, insisting that Mbappé had fulfilled his responsibilities to the club throughout his recovery.

“Mbappe case? What media did is ridiculous. Not even massive stories like the City case or the tricky situation in my country involving Cristiano and his coach. There are so many stories that could fuel your work, yet that wasn’t enough,” Mourinho said.

The Real Madrid boss also questioned why journalists were focusing so heavily on the forward instead of the upcoming match against Villarreal.

“Mbappe? Real Madrid is Real Madrid, and you (journalists) always have to dig something up. I expected the first question to be the only one about the match. Here we are.”

Asked whether the controversy had been exaggerated, Mourinho responded emphatically: “Exaggerated? It’s ridiculous.”

Mourinho has confirmed that Mbappé underwent medical examinations at Real Madrid before consulting an external specialist, with both assessments reportedly reaching the same conclusion. He also indicated that the forward had not breached his obligations to the club.

The former Monaco winger is expected to feature against Villarreal as Madrid look to return to winning ways.
