Jorvan Vieira identifies top contenders for 2024 Africa Cup

In a recent statement to the Egyptian channel “Al-Shams,” Portuguese coach Jorvan Vieira, former manager of Iraq and Kuwait, outlined his top picks for clinching the coveted title in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast.

Vieira, renowned for his previous coaching roles with Zamalek and Ismaily, expressed confidence in Egypt’s national team, asserting their capability to compete for the continental championship set to unfold from the coming Saturday until February 11.

“I believe that the Egyptian team possesses exceptional players with a rich history, making them formidable contenders capable of making a significant impact in the tournament,” remarked Vieira.

The seasoned coach pointed out that Egypt, alongside Cameroon and Ivory Coast, stands among the frontrunners for the continental title.

Additionally, he anticipated potential surprises from teams such as Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and Tanzania during the tournament.

When discussing the prospects of Ghana’s national team, Vieira stated, “Ghana’s team is capable of advancing alongside Egypt from the group stage, while I perceive Nigeria as weak this year and not qualified for clinching the title.”

Furthermore, Vieira remarked, “The Egyptian team has the potential to easily secure victories against both Mozambique and Cape Verde.

The scheduling of the Pharaohs’ matches is also favorable, facing Ghana afterward for qualification.”
