Jorginho Soares: Cape Verde-Dutch defender linked with CFR Cluj move
Jorginho Soares, the Cape Verde and Netherlands centre-back currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Romanian SuperLiga side CFR Cluj. The 27-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Bulgarian outfit Montana at the beginning of July and is understood to be under consideration as a low-cost defensive reinforcement, with his current market value listed at €125,000.
Soares’ status as a free agent makes him an accessible option for clubs still seeking to strengthen their squads deep into the summer window. CFR Cluj, regular challengers in Romania’s top flight and frequent competitors in European qualification rounds, are exploring additions at the back, and Soares’ profile has emerged as one potential solution.
The 1.94m defender has built up experience across several European leagues, most notably in the Dutch second tier. He made 51 appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, recording over 2,200 minutes and one assist, before subsequent spells in Bulgaria and Spain. A move to Cluj would mark his first venture into Romanian football and another step in a career that has already taken him from Dutch youth systems into senior roles abroad.
Soares previously joined FC Emmen and later Montana on free transfers, and his recent departure from Bulgaria once again leaves him in a position to negotiate directly with interested clubs. For now, he remains unattached as CFR Cluj and other suitors assess their options ahead of the new campaign.
