Jordan Lefort’s extraordinary sequence of uninterrupted league appearances ended when the Angers defender was sent off during his side’s 5-1 defeat by Brest on Saturday evening.
The Mauritania international was dismissed in the 59th minute after an intervention by the video assistant referee, bringing to a close a run of remarkable consistency in Ligue 1.
Before the match, Lefort had played 7,439 consecutive minutes in league football without missing a minute, according to L’Equipe. That sequence covered 82 league matches, including 73 in Ligue 1, with the defender featuring from kick-off through to the final whistle, including added time.
His record was particularly notable over the previous two seasons, when he completed every minute of every league game. Lefort was the only outfield player to achieve that feat during the period.
There was an added irony to the venue where the run ended. Lefort had completed the 2025/26 season at Brest, playing in a 1-1 draw. Several months later, the same stadium witnessed the end of his sequence during a difficult night for Angers.
Despite the sending-off, Lefort remains an important member of the SCO squad. The Mauritanian defender is under contract with the Angers club until 2029, while his current market value is estimated at 1 million euros by Transfermarkt.
He must now serve his suspension before returning to Ligue 1 action. Angers’ next league fixture is their seventh match of the French championship, at home against Marseille.
