Captain of the Black Stars, Jordan Ayew has admitted that playing for the national team comes with a lot of pressure.
Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, the England-based striker noted that this is why when results are not positive the players and the manager received a lot of criticism.
“There’s pressure playing for Ghana. We can’t stop people from criticism – it’s part of the game.
“When the results are not there, the manager and the players get the backlash,” Jordan Ayew said.
The Black Stars in recent years have lost their status as a giant in African football.
In 2024, the Ghana national team’s decline reached its highest point when the Black Stars finished the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament without a single win.
Ghana will hence not feature at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco later this year.
Jordan Ayew is part of the Black Stars squad for the games against Chad and Madagascar this month in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He is confident the national team can secure wins in both matches.
