Lorient President Reveals How Jordan Ayew Was Persuaded to Join
Loïc Féry, president of FC Lorient, has lifted the curtain on the club’s successful bid to sign Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew during this summer’s transfer window.
Despite not offering the highest salary, Lorient secured Ayew’s services for €4 million. Féry told French newspaper Libération that the decision went beyond financial incentives. “Jordan Ayew did not go to the highest bidder, far from it,” he said.
Féry highlighted several factors that played a key role in convincing the 22-year-old forward. “Everything can play a role. The living environment — especially since he has a six-week-old daughter — is important. You would have to ask him personally,” he added.
The Lorient president also pointed out the less intense competition for starting places compared to Ayew’s former club, Olympique de Marseille. “We explained to him that at Lorient, the team plays for the striker. He also knows the training conditions and the quality of teammates he will be working with. So there are many alternatives to simply a net salary.”
Ayew’s move to Lorient is viewed as an opportunity for the striker to flourish in a team built around him, while also enjoying a supportive environment off the pitch.
