Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew netted a stunning goal for Leicester City on Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Foxes from falling to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield.
Ayew, the experienced Black Stars striker, was named in the starting lineup for the away fixture. Just six minutes into the match, he showcased his composure and clinical finishing ability. Receiving a well-timed pass from Stephy Mavididi, Ayew calmly slotted the ball past Liverpool’s goalkeeper into the back of the net, putting Leicester 1-0 up.
With that goal, Ayew now has five goals and one assist from 20 appearances across all competitions this season.
However, despite Ayew’s early strike, Liverpool responded strongly. In the final moments of the first half, Cody Gakpo equalized for the Reds, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.
The second half saw Liverpool take control. Curtis Jones gave the hosts the lead with a goal in the 49th minute, and Mohamed Salah sealed the victory in the 83rd minute with an incredible solo effort. Salah dribbled past Leicester defenders and finished calmly into the left side of the net, making it 3-1. Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk was unable to stop the strike.
Despite Ayew’s early heroics, Leicester were unable to hold on as Liverpool completed the turnaround to take all three points.
