Jordan Ayew Set to Join Lorient After Marseille Exit Talks
Jordan Ayew’s anticipated move to Nice has reportedly collapsed, with the Ghanaian striker now expected to sign for Lorient, according to French sports daily L’Équipe.
The 23-year-old, who has not yet returned to training with Olympique de Marseille following the World Cup, appears poised for a new chapter in Brittany. Lorient’s club president, Loïc Féry, teased the arrival of a “luxury recruit” in a tweet on Monday, fueling speculation about Ayew’s imminent transfer.
Sources indicate that negotiations were smoothed by the strong relationship between the presidents of Lorient and Marseille—Vincent Labrune and Féry respectively—facilitating the striker’s move.
Jordan Ayew, the younger brother of Olympique de Marseille star André Ayew, has struggled to meet expectations at his boyhood club. Marcelo Bielsa, Marseille’s head coach, has reportedly excluded him from his plans for the upcoming season.
Last season, Ayew impressed during a loan spell at Ligue 2 side Sochaux, where he played a crucial role in the team’s performances. Now, he looks set to return to regular first-team football with Lorient.
Ayew’s arrival could see him fill the void left by Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar, who is rumored to be attracting interest from clubs including Southampton in the English Premier League.
Ayew is understood to be in Brittany to complete a medical examination ahead of signing his contract. The move presents an opportunity for the Ghanaian forward to rejuvenate his career and prove his quality in Ligue 1.
