Jordan Ayew Eyes Bundesliga Move Amid Marseille Exit Talks
By BBC Sport Staff
Ghana international Jordan Ayew appears set to leave Olympique de Marseille this summer, despite returning from a successful loan spell at FC Sochaux. The 22-year-old striker, who showed promise during his time in Ligue 1 last season, is reportedly not part of new Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
Ayew, the younger brother of fellow Ghanaian international André Ayew, is now looking to test himself in Germany, with Bundesliga side Schalke 04 showing strong interest in securing his services.
Speaking to German outlet Sport Bild, Ayew expressed both admiration for the league and enthusiasm about a potential move. “The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world. I can easily imagine myself playing there to test my skills,” he said. “It would also give me a lot of pleasure to play in the same league as my friend Prince, which makes it all the more interesting.”
The “Prince” in question is Schalke midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, a close friend of Ayew and a fellow member of Ghana’s national team. A move to the Bundesliga would not only provide Ayew with a fresh start but also reunite him in the same league with Boateng, a scenario the striker finds appealing.
Jordan Ayew’s potential departure from Marseille marks a significant turn in his career. Having joined the club’s youth academy in 2006, Ayew has struggled to cement a permanent place in the senior squad, often featuring as a squad rotation player. His recent stint at Sochaux, however, saw him gain valuable first-team experience and showcase his attacking abilities, even as the club battled relegation.
The young forward was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage after a challenging campaign in Group G. Despite the early exit, Ayew gained international exposure, further boosting his profile among European clubs.
With Bielsa beginning to shape his Marseille side for the season ahead, Ayew’s departure seems increasingly likely. A move to the Bundesliga could offer him a platform for regular top-flight football and continued development in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
As transfer speculation intensifies, all eyes will be on whether Schalke formalises their interest and whether Ayew makes the leap to Germany — a move that could define the next chapter of his promising career.
