Jordan Amavi Firmly Rejects Move to Aston Villa

Jordan Amavi Hesitant Over Aston Villa Move as Lyon Remain in Pursuit

By BBC Sport

OGC Nice left-back Jordan Amavi is attracting growing interest during the summer transfer window, with both Olympique Lyonnais and Premier League side Aston Villa keen on securing the young defender’s services. However, financial hurdles and the player’s own reservations are complicating a potential move.

Lyon have been closely monitoring Amavi for several weeks and view him as a key target to strengthen their defence. But according to reports, OGC Nice are holding firm on their €7 million valuation—an amount Lyon may struggle to match given their current transfer budget.

Despite the financial challenge, Lyon remain hopeful. Club president Jean-Michel Aulas is reportedly still engaged in negotiations and sees Amavi as a long-term investment.

The 21-year-old, born in France to Togolese parents, is not only being courted domestically. Aston Villa have also made a concrete approach, attracted by his attacking prowess from the left flank and his potential to develop in the Premier League. However, Amavi is said to have declined the offer.

Though flattered by the interest from England, Amavi reportedly fears the risk of limited playing time at Villa Park. Despite the club’s financial muscle, he is wary of moving abroad only to find himself on the bench—especially at this early stage of his career.

For now, his preference appears to be staying in Ligue 1, where he is more likely to enjoy regular football. Lyon, still in need of reinforcing their squad for a Champions League campaign, remain in the race and could return with an improved offer in the coming days.

Amavi, a former France U21 international, has been one of OGC Nice’s standout performers, and his next move could play a crucial role in shaping his development at both club and international level.
