German-born Ivorian defender Jonathan Tah has reportedly decided to join FC Barcelona, marking a major transfer victory for the Catalan giants.
The Bayer 04 Leverkusen stalwart is set to don the Blaugrana jersey next season, as per reports from SportItalia’s Tancredi Palmeri.
Barcelona’s triumph in securing Tah’s services comes at the expense of several top European clubs. Italian heavyweights Inter Milan and Juventus, as well as Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich, all vied for the 28-year-old’s signature. However, Barcelona emerged victorious in the race, capitalizing on Tah’s expiring contract with Leverkusen.
Bayern, who made significant efforts last summer to sign the central defender, were unable to reach a financial agreement with Leverkusen. This failure has now allowed Barcelona to bolster their backline with the experienced German international, whose current market value stands at €30 million according to Transfermarkt.
Tah’s addition is expected to fortify a defense that has shown vulnerabilities in recent seasons, making this a strategic and symbolic victory for Barcelona ahead of the new campaign.
