Jonas David: MSV Duisburg linked with move for German-Nigerian defender

German-Nigerian centre-back Jonas David, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to MSV Duisburg in Germany’s 3. Liga.

The 26-year-old became unattached on 1 July 2026 after leaving SSV Ulm 1846, where he had spent the 2025-26 season. A move to Duisburg would represent a return to Germany’s third tier, a competition in which David has made 14 appearances during his career.

David joined Ulm from Austrian side WSG Tirol in August 2025. He had moved to Tirol the previous season after departing Hamburg, the club where he developed through the youth ranks and made his senior Bundesliga debut.

The defender has recorded 68 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring once, while also making 17 Bundesliga appearances and 14 outings in the 3. Liga. His career record includes spells with Hansa Rostock and Wurzburger Kickers, both on loan from Hamburg.

David’s current market value is listed at €300,000, down from a career high of €1.2m. No transfer fee or contract terms have been reported in connection with the Duisburg rumour.

There has been no confirmation of an agreement, and David remains without a club as of 5 October 2026.
