Former Nigerian international John Mikel Obi believes Victor Osimhen could still fulfill his long-held ambition of playing for Chelsea, despite his move to Stamford Bridge falling through last summer.
Osimhen, who had been heavily linked with the Premier League club, remains keen on joining the Blues in the future.
The 25-year-old striker is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray but continues to see Chelsea as his ideal destination.
Mikel Obi backs Osimhen’s Chelsea dream
Speaking on the Obione Podcast, Mikel Obi expressed optimism that Osimhen could still make the switch to West London, highlighting the striker’s admiration for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Chelsea has always been his club of heart, Mikel said. He has often spoken about his admiration for Drogba.
Although the transfer did not materialize during the last summer window, Mikel remains confident that a move could still be possible in the future.
Even if it didn’t work out last summer, you never know.
I think the door is not completely closed,” he added.
Uncertain future for Osimhen
Osimhen’s future remains a subject of speculation, with top European clubs closely monitoring his situation.
After a standout campaign in Serie A with Napoli, where he played a pivotal role in their title-winning season, the Nigerian forward has been the subject of continuous transfer interest.
His temporary spell at Galatasaray has provided him with regular playing time, but a long-term move remains uncertain.
Chelsea, currently undergoing a squad rebuild, could still be in the market for a prolific striker, making Osimhen a potential target once again.
For now, the Nigerian international is focused on delivering for Galatasaray, but his dream of wearing Chelsea blue is far from over.
