John Jebbor Sherington Named Interim Coach of Sierra Leone for 2017 AFCON Qualifiers
John Jebbor Sherington, currently serving as Sierra Leone’s national technical director, has been appointed interim coach for the Leone Stars’ upcoming matchday in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Sherington previously managed Sierra Leone during the 1998 World Cup qualifiers as well as the 2006 and 2008 AFCON tournaments.
The team has been without a permanent coach since the departure of Irishman Johnny McKinstry during the 2015 AFCON qualifiers. John Ajina Sesay took charge for the last four matches, but Sherington will lead the side for their qualifier against Sudan in Khartoum on June 14.
Sherington mentioned that several candidates from Brazil, Croatia, Argentina, as well as local coach John Keister, have applied for the permanent coaching position.
