Joe Nana Adarkwa has been appointed as the new head coach of the Ghana U-17 women’s national team, known as the Black Maidens. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially announced the appointment on Tuesday, February 27, marking a new chapter in the development of women’s football in the country.

Joe Nana Adarkwa takes the reins from his predecessor, Baba Nuhu, and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Currently serving as the head coach of the Ghanaian women’s club Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Adarkwa is tasked with the responsibility of not only sustaining the momentum created by his forerunner but also surpassing previous accomplishments in the U-17 women’s category.

Assisting Adarkwa in his mission are Basiru-Deen Sumani, who assumes the role of assistant coach, and Osei Boateng, appointed as the goalkeeping coach.

The trio is set to collaborate closely to elevate the performance and development of the Black Maidens, contributing to the broader vision of advancing women’s football in Ghana.

Joe Nana Adarkwa’s impressive track record further solidifies his credentials for the role. Securing two Ghana Women’s Premier League titles with Ampem Darkoa Ladies in 2022 and 2023, Adarkwa has already left an indelible mark in domestic women’s football.

His coaching prowess extends to triumphs in the Women’s FA Cup and guiding his team to gold in the UFOA Women’s Champions League-B.

Additionally, under his leadership, the squad achieved a commendable fourth place in the CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast.

As the new coach of the Black Maidens, Joe Nana Adarkwa’s appointment signifies a strategic investment in nurturing and advancing women’s football talent in Ghana.

The GFA looks forward to witnessing the positive impact of Adarkwa’s leadership on the U-17 women’s team as they aim for greater success on both national and continental fronts.
