Joe Cole has condemned Wilfred Ndidi for a reckless challenge on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer during their 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday. The incident occurred in the 22nd minute when Ndidi’s late tackle from behind caught Palmer on the Achilles, followed by a follow-up challenge with his trailing foot.
While the referee issued Ndidi a yellow card, the decision was reviewed by VAR, but no further action was taken.
Cole, speaking during TNT Sports punditry, was unequivocal in his criticism.
That tackle, he [Ndidi] could hurt him [Palmer] there.
If VAR is ever going to step in for reckless endangerment of a player, it’s a terrible tackle,” said Cole.
Cole also added, This is a game Leicester were miles off it and at the height of their frustration. He’s lost his rag.
He should be sent off. He nearly scored the equaliser.
If he plays a part in getting Leicester back in the game, I’d imagine Enzo Maresca will be furious.
Ndidi’s challenge came at a time when Leicester were struggling to match Chelsea’s intensity, with the Foxes failing to regain momentum despite a late push.
