Joao Gastao: Angolan striker joins Farense on loan from Estrela Amadora
Angolan centre-forward Joao Gastao has joined Farense on loan from Liga Portugal side Estrela Amadora for the 2026-27 season. The 19-year-old, who stands at 1.80m and plays primarily through the middle, moves to the Liga Portugal 2 club with his temporary deal running until 30 June 2027.
Gastao arrives in Faro after breaking into senior football with Estrela Amadora, where he progressed from the under-19s into the first team over the past two seasons. He had previously featured for Estrela’s under-23 side before stepping up to the main squad in the 2025-26 campaign.
Last season the forward split his time between Estrela and a loan spell at Belenenses, gaining experience across the top two tiers of Portuguese football. Across league, cup and under-23 competitions, he has already collected minutes in Liga Portugal, Liga Portugal 2 play-offs, the Taca de Portugal and the national under-23 structure.
Gastao has shown an eye for goal in youth and lower-division action, registering goals and assists in Liga 3 promotion matches and under-23 tournaments, including a strike in the Liga U23 Cup qualifying phase. His current market valuation is €200,000.
The Luanda-born attacker began his Portuguese journey with Estrela’s youth ranks in 2024 after leaving Angolan side Kabuscorp SC, and has steadily climbed each age group before this latest move.
Gastao’s loan switch means he will spend the 2026-27 season at Farense before returning to Estrela Amadora at the end of the campaign.
