Barcelona are being linked with a move for Salzburg centre-back Joane Gadou, with the teenage defender’s future in Austria increasingly under the spotlight.
The 19-year-old, who holds both French and Ivorian nationality, is currently valued at €12.00m and is emerging as one of Red Bull Salzburg’s most coveted young assets. Data from Transfermarkt lists the speculation as a rumour, with the probability of a deal still marked as “?”, underlining that talks – if any – remain at a very early stage.
Gadou, born on 17 January 2007 in Aubervilliers, Paris, only joined Salzburg from Paris Saint‑Germain’s youth system in September 2024 after progressing through PSG’s U17 and U19 sides. Since arriving in the Austrian Bundesliga he has been developed primarily as a right‑footed central defender, wearing the number 23 shirt and standing at 1.95m.
His rise has been mirrored by a sharp increase in market value: from €500,000 at PSG U19 in early 2024 to a peak of €15m at Salzburg in June 2025, before stabilising at €12m by December 2025. That trajectory, coupled with his performances in Austria and on the European stage for Salzburg, has put him firmly on the radar of leading clubs.
The current data does not list a contract expiry date at Salzburg, leaving open the theoretical possibility that, if no extension is agreed in future, Gadou could run down his deal and become a free agent. For now, however, he remains under Salzburg’s control, and any transfer to LaLiga would be expected to command a significant fee in line with his valuation.
With Barcelona continuing to refresh their defence and Salzburg renowned for selling on young talent, any concrete movement in this rumour could prove a defining step in Gadou’s career, shaping his reputation as one of Europe’s next generation of centre-backs.
