Jesús Castillo joins Espérance de Tunis on three-year deal

Peruvian international midfielder Jesús Castillo has completed a move to Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis, signing a three-year contract with the club.

The transfer marks a new chapter in the 25-year-old’s career as he makes the switch from South American football to North Africa.

Castillo joins Espérance from Peruvian side Universitario de Deportes, where he established himself as an important figure in midfield. The defensive midfielder is known for his energy, defensive discipline and ability to disrupt opposition attacks.

His move to Tunisia follows reports of advanced negotiations between the two clubs, with Castillo eventually completing the formalities of the transfer after travelling to Tunis and undergoing his medical examinations.

Espérance have moved quickly to secure Castillo’s services as they strengthen their squad for the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.

The Tunisian club are among Africa’s most successful sides and regularly compete at the highest level in the CAF Champions League. They reached the semi-finals of the competition in the 2025/26 season, underlining the level of competition Castillo will now face.

For Castillo, the transfer represents his first major move outside Peru and provides an opportunity to test himself in a different footballing environment.

The Peru international will now look to adapt to Tunisian football while competing for a place in an Espérance midfield that will be expected to deliver both domestic success and strong performances on the African stage.

The three-year agreement is set to keep Castillo at Espérance until 2029, giving the club a long-term option in the middle of the pitch.
