Jesurun Uchegbulam: Nigerian-Italian winger returns to Matlock on free transfer from The New Saints
Jesurun Uchegbulam has rejoined Matlock, with the Nigerian-Italian winger completing a free transfer from Welsh champions The New Saints. The 25-year-old left-sided attacker moves back to the Derbyshire club after his short spell in the Cymru Premier.
Uchegbulam, who was born in Lagos and is right-footed despite operating primarily from the left wing, returns to a familiar environment having previously played for Matlock earlier in his career. His latest switch continues a busy 18 months in which he has featured for several clubs across the English pyramid and in Wales.
Before signing for Matlock, Uchegbulam had only recently joined The New Saints from Chelmsford, also on a free transfer. His move to the Cymru Premier followed a loan spell at Buxton from Chelmsford during the 2025-26 campaign, where he spent the latter part of the season.
The winger’s path has taken him through a series of non-league and lower-league sides, including Eastbourne and Oldham Athletic, as well as earlier stints at Eastleigh and Rochdale. He first made the jump into the National League scene with Chesterfield after an initial spell at Matlock, having joined them from Mossley, where he arrived from Stockport Town in 2018.
Standing at 1.78m and comfortable attacking from wide areas, Uchegbulam adds pace and direct running to the Matlock frontline as he embarks on a second spell with the club. The move, completed on 14 July 2026, is a permanent free transfer.
