Jesse Bisiwu hails warm Barcelona welcome after summer transfer

Belgium-born winger Jesse Bisiwu says his first days as a Barcelona player have been “wonderful” after completing his move to the Spanish giants.

The teenager, who is of Ghanaian descent, was officially unveiled on Tuesday, five days after signing for the Catalan club, and has already begun settling into his new surroundings.

Bisiwu expressed his gratitude to his new team-mates and club staff, describing the reception he has received since arriving in Spain as exceptional.

“My first days have been wonderful. I have been welcomed by a wonderful family and I’m very grateful for that.

“They gave me a very warm welcome, everyone is very friendly, and I am very grateful,” the talented winger said.

Excited to begin new chapter

The young attacker admitted that joining one of the world’s biggest clubs has been a special experience and said he is eager to begin the next stage of his career.

“Being here and seeing it for myself is a different feeling. I am very happy to be here.”

Bisiwu joins Barcelona after spending the past three seasons with Club NXT in Belgium, where he gained valuable experience in both senior and youth competitions.

Although naturally right-footed, the 1.85-metre winger operates mainly on the left flank and is expected to strengthen the Barcelona Atlètic squad.

Rising Ghanaian talent arrives from Belgium

The teenager made 36 appearances in Belgium’s Challenger Pro League last season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

He also impressed in the UEFA Youth League, where he registered three goals and one assist in 14 matches.

Bisiwu joined Club NXT from Club Brugge’s academy in 2023, having previously developed at OH Leuven’s youth set-up.

Barcelona bet on youth

Despite his age, Bisiwu arrives in Spain with experience in senior football and European youth competition, qualities that Barcelona hope will accelerate his development.

His signing adds another exciting young talent to the club’s ranks, while Ghanaian football supporters will be watching closely as one of their emerging prospects begins his journey at the Camp Nou.
