Jesse Bisiwu earns Barcelona first-team place
Barcelona are set to keep Belgian winger Jesse Bisiwu with the first team for the upcoming season, giving the 18-year-old an early opportunity to work under manager Hansi Flick.
The decision follows an impressive pre-season campaign in which the teenager scored twice against Basel and quickly caught the coaching staff’s attention.
Bisiwu joined Barcelona from Club Brugge this summer in a deal worth €8.5 million. Although he will train and compete alongside the senior squad, the club plan to register him with a youth-team shirt number.
That arrangement is designed to help Barcelona manage their Financial Fair Play limits while continuing Bisiwu’s gradual introduction to top-level football. It also allows the club to protect the winger’s development without placing unnecessary pressure on him.
The youngster has already attracted attention beyond club football. Bisiwu recently chose Belgium over Ghana for his international allegiance, adding another important step to his promising career.
His direct style, speed and confidence impressed during the summer, and Flick now appears ready to give him the chance to learn from established first-team players. Bisiwu will face strong competition for minutes, but remaining with Barcelona’s senior group represents a significant reward.
For the teenager, the next challenge is turning pre-season promise into regular opportunities when competitive fixtures begin.
