Jess Thorup under pressure to lose Al Ahly coaching job after loss to Tala’ea El Gaish

Danish coach Jess Thorup is facing mounting scrutiny following Al Ahly’s 2-1 defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish on Monday night at the Military Academy Stadium.

Sources close to the club revealed that Thorup’s contract contains specific clauses that complicate any potential dismissal.

According to the source, if Al Ahly were to part ways with the Danish coach after his first season, he is entitled to three months’ salary.

Additionally, the contract guarantees full payment for the remainder of the term if he is dismissed mid-season.

“These clauses pose a significant financial obstacle,” the source explained, noting that the club is not currently considering terminating Thorup’s contract despite the recent setback.

The defeat leaves Al Ahly with 40 points as they head into the league’s championship stage.

The team now awaits Thursday’s draw before facing two crucial quarter-final matches against Tunisia’s Esperance in the African Champions League.
