Jeremy Doku shared his disappointment after Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Etihad, a result that saw the holders crash out of the Champions League 5-1 on aggregate in the last 16.

Reflecting on the performance, the winger felt City had done many things right, even after Bernardo Silva’s first-half red card left them with 10 men.

“I feel like we had a lot of chances and played well, especially 10 versus 11. We did well. We are disappointed with the loss,” Doku admitted.

He also defended Silva, backing his captain after the costly dismissal. “Bernardo is our captain and is the most disappointed of all of us. It’s not his fault, he tried to defend. It’s a bit unlucky,” he said.

Asked about the heavy aggregate scoreline, Doku replied: “No but it is a hard reality. When you look at the game, it doesn’t feel like they were much better than us. It is disappointing for us.”

He added that every game is different and noted that Real Madrid’s 3-0 first-leg win allowed them to sit deeper in Manchester, trusting their quality without needing to chase more goals.
