Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has hailed Kevin De Bruyne’s quality after assisting the Belgian midfielder’s winning goal in their 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.
The 22-year-old, who is of Ghanaian heritage, delivered the crucial pass that led to De Bruyne’s 35th-minute strike at the Etihad Stadium.
Doku’s cutback from the left was calmly converted by his teammate, securing three important points for City in the Premier League run-in.
Speaking after the match, Doku expressed admiration for De Bruyne’s enduring influence on the team.
“There was no doubt in him still being capable of doing those things. He has shown today that he still has that quality. I am happy for him that he scored,” he said.
City were far from their best on the night, with Wolves offering a tough challenge and nearly scoring through Matheus Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri.
Doku acknowledged the opposition’s strength but stressed the importance of City grinding out the win.
“It was a tough game, they played very well. We didn’t play our best but three points is three points. Fair play to them though,” he noted.
He also praised Wolves’ recent form and their physicality.
“They are very strong in the midfield and a very physical team… I am not surprised they had a six-game run of wins but I’m glad we ended it.”
Looking ahead, Doku said the team remains focused on their remaining objectives.
“Now we look forward to being in the Champions League and we still have the FA Cup final to look forward to as well.”
The win moved Manchester City into third place, with just a few games left in the campaign.
