Jeremie Frimpong, the dynamic right-back for Bayer Leverkusen, is reportedly setting his sights on a summer transfer to Spain’s top football clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The 24-year-old Dutch-Ghanaian defender, under contract with Leverkusen until 2028, has been linked to a Premier League move, notably Manchester City. However, reports suggest Frimpong favors a switch to La Liga, citing concerns over the physicality of English football.
Frimpong’s performance statistics bolster his appeal. In the 2023–24 season, he made 31 Bundesliga appearances, netting nine goals. He also contributed six appearances and two goals in domestic cup competitions, and ten appearances with three goals in European tournaments, totaling 47 appearances and 14 goals across all competitions. In the current 2024–25 season, Frimpong has participated in 24 Bundesliga matches, scoring three goals. He has also made three domestic cup appearances and eight in the UEFA Champions League, maintaining his reputation as a reliable defender with offensive prowess.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Frimpong’s preference for a move to Spain’s elite clubs adds an intriguing narrative to the upcoming market.
